Catalog in PrestaShop: base configuration

The catalog in PrestaShop can be a bit challenging to manage at first, but after adding some products, it becomes very straightforward.

Before adding a product, the first step is to create categories.

Defining categories depends on the industry of the company and specifically the products to be marketed. This is highly specific to each company.

Additionally, it’s necessary to define attributes and features.

While features are used to highlight generic properties of a product, such as fabric type, attributes are options within the same product, such as size or color.

Next, define the brand or brands to be associated with the products in the online store, along with suppliers.

It’s worth noting that while these configurations are optional, they help provide more precision to the product being sold and also contribute to improving the SEO of the online store.

After making these configurations, you can add a new product.

For this, you need some basic information:

  • a name,
  • one or more images, with one designated as the cover image,
  • a brief summary,
  • a detailed description,
  • a reference code,
  • the quantity in stock,
  • the price, with or without taxes,
  • the associated category/categories.

With these details, a product can be activated for online sale.

Furthermore, you can configure the brand, related products, and features for a more detailed product listing.

You can also configure attributes, especially for products with variations.

It’s also worth mentioning that within the PrestaShop catalog, there are specific and detailed configurations available, such as stock management, discounted pricing, SEO optimization, and many more.
